Antenatal care is provided at the clinic in Hunters Corner. The midwives do not do home visits during the antenatal period. Births are usually at Middlemore Hospital.
Postnatal care is provided at the home of the woman and baby. Your midwife will come to visit you.
All midwives provide primary care. If circumstances should require the assistance or intervention of doctors, the care becomes secondary care. At that point, many midwives will transfer care to the medical team.
These midwives are not based at Hunters Corner but work very closely with our team.
Our obstetrician provides a community-based service with no fees payable by the patient. An appointment is essential and can only be obtained by referral from your midwife or GP.
Our midwives at the clinic provide antenatal care and some specialise in postnatal care. Check each one if you wish to request a particular midwife.
We are a co-operative whose members are health professionals working in the field of maternity services. Our focus is on supporting the health professionals to provide the best possible maternity care to women and helping women to access midwives, obstetricians and other health professionals as needed.
We were originally formed as South Auckland Maternity Care Limited in 1996. Initially there were only three midwife members who secured a contract for maternity service with the then Northern Regional Health Authority. Over the years, we have grown to a national organisation with over 200 members.
We are structured as a company with a board of directors who determine the company’s strategic direction. There is a small administration team of five, led by the CEO, Tony Mansfield, and Anne Whyte, Midwife.
